I had the pleasure of starting the 2 day “doctor sharing seminar” outlining advanced concepts and procedures using CMRT, while discussing the neurology of line 1 and line 2 fibres. Dr Mark Postles presented a great thought provoking discussion on concepts of how structure on a biological level, also reflects on how we practice and communicate Chiropractic.
All in all, the weekend was a huge success and enjoyed by all, not to mention the breathtaking views and best that Queenstown had to offer. As a group we enjoyed the company of each other, together with the delegates families, in great dining and skiing not to mention.

SOT………… An Integral Part of EVERY Chiropractic Practice!
Marc G. Pick is a Doctor of Chiropractic with a private practice in Beverly Hills, California since 1973. In a desire to enhance his services, he attended Emperors College of Traditional Oriental Medicine from 1987-92, and in 1997, he completed the American Chiropractic Association’s 300 hour postgraduate course in Neurology.
He earned his Diplomat and Fellowship status in Craniopathy through the International Craniopathic Society sponsored by the Sacro-Occipital Research Society International (SORSI) and has lectured throughout the United States, Japan, Korea, Australia, England, France, Canada, Italy and Switzerland since 1979.
Since 1973, he has accomplished several thousand hours of human dissection and founded Project Human (the construction of a prosected latex humanoid cast from the parts of human cadavers).
One of Dr. Pick’s latest accomplishments is his creation of a latex fiber optic model of the Human Central & Peripheral Nervous System. This was placed on loan to the Wellcome Trust for their 2002 Exhibit that was displayed at the Museum of Science in London.
Naturally inquisitive about the intercranial impact of cranial manipulations, he began investigating the visual effects of cranial manipulations upon the intercranial structures during MRI scanning and was published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT) in 1994. His more recent work is the text, “Cranial Sutures”, published and released through Eastland Press. The text is a comprehensive guide to sutural analysis, morphology and manipulative strategies and is designed to aid the practitioner’s manipulative applications through a greater understanding of the skull’s interarticular relationships
We can’t wait to meet up with old friends, bring along your partners for a fantastic weekend in the city!
Dr Troy Miles Presents at RMIT
A packed lecture theatre was the scene at RMIT earlier this year, as students from all year levels were captivated while Dr Troy Miles spoke about SOT.
Troy, a certified SOT Craniopath, has been coming to RMIT for 3 years to talk to the students about SOT and promote the series. Each year Troy covers the history and origin of SOT (even down to the story of Kodak), the anatomy of CSF and how that relates to the subluxation, the different SOT categories, CMRT and cranials.
His presentation was fun yet very informative. It left students with a deeper understanding of the philosophy of the SOT technic as well as its clinical relevance. This is incredibly valuable for all students, as SOT is not taught formally in the course until second semester of 5th year, even then it is only briefly touched on. He also gives the students the critical information they require if they wish to participate in the series, or apply for the SOT student scholarship.
Each year SOTO Australasia offers 2 half scholarships for the students from each university. The application process requires students to fill out a questionnaire about their understanding and experience of SOT. This year RMIT had a staggering 30 applications for the scholarship. I would like to congratulate our successful recipients Nyree Osbourne and Sarah Pye, both 5th year students whom have completed the series previously. From RMIT we will have 41 students completing the 2013 SOT series, which is significantly up on previous years. This is a credit to Dr Miles’ presentation and his commitment to the RMIT students.
This year the RMIT SOT Club will be running a number of in house technique nights to be held on campus. This will allow students to brush up on their new found knowledge and skills developed throughout the 2013 series. We also hope to have technique evenings at local Melbourne practices where we can utilise the experience of certified SOT practitioners.
A huge thank you must go to Dr Troy Miles for taking time out of his busy schedule to come to RMIT and talk about SOT and the 2013 series. His on going support of the students at RMIT is amazing and ensures students are exposed to the brilliance of SOT. Thanks must also be given to Dr Tori Wright for her fantastic work as the student coordinator.
As students we are truly excited to complete the 2013 series and mingle with other SOT practitioners.
Jake Currie - RMIT SOT Club President
An introductory SOT presentation was held at Macquarie University recently. It allowed the chiropractic students at Macquarie to learn more about the technique, as it does not form part of the curriculum in the chiropractic degree.
Darren Little and Gerald Vargas explained the anatomy and physiology behind the technique. They reinforced the importance of the relationship between the skull and the sacrum, an optimally functioning nervous system and the prevention of dysfunction and instability through the promotion of health.
An introduction to the concepts of categories, the chiropractic manipulation reflex technique and cranial mechanisms allowed us to gain a basic understanding of the technique.
A demonstration at the end of the presentation showed us all the methods of treatment and how the tools used prove effective.
We are very grateful to Gerald and Darren for allowing us to gain an insight into the process and treatment of patients through this technique.
This month we have decided to have a flashback to our dusty archive folders and share with you some of our history of SOT.
This article is written by Dr. Keith Bastian and Dr. Scott Parker who were instramental in the foundations of SOT in Australia.
